What the study reports
Collegiate basketball players who extended sleep toward ten hours in bed improved sprint times, shooting accuracy, reaction time and mood. The intervention was uncontrolled and used a small squad, so effect sizes should be treated as indicative rather than precise.
The PROMACHOS reading
Extending sleep is one of the few interventions that improves reaction time, accuracy and mood simultaneously and costs nothing. PROMACHOS treats sleep as a trainable standard rather than a lifestyle preference, and expects students carrying heavy technical loads to protect it deliberately.
